Le rêve de Gabriel
Gabriel's dream

Anne Lévy-Morelle, Belgium, 1997, 35 mm, Format diffusion : 1.37 (35 mm), 52 & 83 minutes

In 1948, four large and wealthy Belgian families sell all their possessions and board big ships headed for far-flung Chilean Patagonia in the opposite hemisphere… embarking on a journey from wich they intend never to return.

Gabriel de Halleux is one of the patriarchs of the adventure. At the time, he's nearly 50, with 9 children.
One after another, Gabriel's companions abandon the futureless, wind-swept, god-forsaken hole.
As for Gabriel, he remains here, with his sister, his wife, and his oldest daughter, up until his death in 1988.

This jam-packed saga tells the story of the road… the road taken by these explorers fron the land of living ; the road that led Gabriel not only to Patagonia, but farther still: to himself.
